Who will win Fall 2010?

In Softball on October 23, 2010 at 7:09 pm

Great games this season! With the top 8 teams in each conference making the playoffs, we ended the official season with ease. One tie breaker for the National Conference – AbraCadavers and Naples Pizza. Other than that, smooth sailing!

The first two rounds went off without a hitch. Some different teams this year shaking up the ballfield!

In the American Conference, Alden Cafe pulled a last inning win over Pappy, sendin the back-to-back champs packing. Will Alden go all the way, or will All American Riot regain their title from the summer of 2009? With a merger of The Riot and 4Ever Landscaping, only game day will tell!

The National Conference welcomes newcomers Monkey Joe’s, who will face off against ’08 Fall Champs Renegades. Monkey Joe’s has the best record in the league with 17-1, but Renegades have been known to come back and bite you in the…

The Championship games will go on at Berlin Large and Challenge Grove, and all are welcome to come cheer on our teams.

Good luck!!

Great things are coming!

I know its been a while since the last post. Heck, I didn’t even update the summer playoffs, and here we are almost at the fall playoffs!

We’ve been hard at work creating things in our lab. All I can say is thanks to the poll, “Ready for some more sports,” we’ve got some great things up our sleeves for the new year!

Stay tuned and get ready to play!

Round 1…who’s moving on?

In Softball on July 25, 2010 at 1:05 pm

What a hot, exciting day for all the teams yesterday. Great effort on everyone’s part too, not only for braving the disgusting heat, but for playing your best games.

In what I believe may be the first ever top seed sweep, four teams from both conferences move on to vie for top dog. Renegades take the 4 seed for the National Conference, followed by Hackers, and division champs Racks and The Firm. In the American Conference, numeral uno Horning goes head to head with Damage, and reigning champs Pappy will duke it out with CJR CPA (formerly known as Playdrome). These are some tough match-ups, and I’d advise against any betting, since anything goes! Predictions for the champions anyone?

Tune in next weekend to find out who makes the Championship games, and possibly even the champ will emerge…who will it be this season? Whoever it is has a nice prize waiting for them!!

Good luck!

Free Agents Needed/Available

In Uncategorized on July 21, 2010 at 6:48 pm

Calling all coaches and free agents. There’s now a new place for you to go to find teams and pick up players! The Free Agent Classifieds can help you get on a team and find that player you need!

Visit the website, and you’ll see the link on the lower left side. Free agents can post a bit about their skill level, what positions they play, and their contact information. Coaches can communicate the need for players too, and when a happy match is made, the service will let you know!

Just something we’re trying to do to make this the best league ever!

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS

In Uncategorized on July 20, 2010 at 5:37 pm

SJSL has some big ideas up its sleeve for the 2011 season, and we’ll need your help. Now, I know, we haven’t even started the fall season and we’re already thinking about next year, but the ideas are so big, we’d probably need a whole year to get them going!

So, what is it we’re looking for, you ask? To start off small, we’re recruiting dedicated people who are willing and able to lend a hand for a multitude of things. For starters, the positions would be strictly volunteer, however, that’s not to say they couldn’t turn into a paying gig down the road!! Also, you can be sure that you will be taken care of for your hard work during the volunteer phase!!

Just some areas that we’d need help with…

1. Field crews. We’d like to continue to offer groomed fields, but it gets hard for only one person to groom the fields, so if you’d be interested, sign up!

2. Score verifiers. We want to be as accurate as possible for every score, so when it comes down to the wire at playoff time, we can be sure we didn’t miss crossing our t’s and dotting our i’s. We’d love to have some dedicated folks stick around at each game and phone/text/email in the scores as soon as they commence.

3. Sponsor recruiters. We want to make the game as affordable as possible, so if we can line up some corporate sponsors, we can take some of the burden off the teams. Anyone with good sales skills would do a fine job!

If anyone would be interested in helping out in any way, let us know. We’re always open for new ideas and ways to make this the best league around, so give us a shout!

Contact the commissioner for more details or to lend us your ideas! commsih@sjsoftball.com

All Star Success!

Here’s the blurb from the email recap of the All Star games. If anyone has anything to add, please email the commissioner at commish@sjsoftball.com

Ok, so apparently, the NL All Stars had a better time than the AL All Stars. Sorry AL if I let you all down! I didn’t know there would be GIVEAWAYS Rich!!! To all the AL All Stars, I owe you!!!

We did have a great time though. It was an “intense without the intensity” game. We each held the game at a low, close score until the very end. All of a sudden, out of no where, here comes the AL North with a 4-run sweep to beat us by 1. What a hell of a hit Mr. Hickman, coach and mega buff softball dude. Tyronne also pitched a heck of a game…too bad I can’t hit off of his balls all season…and don’t go making that into a dirty little joke either! Rob Renz pitched a hell of a game too…I’d say he’s a fine pitcher, and one of the better ones in the league!!

The girls in the AL division were mean!! Where the heck did they get their bats from!! I’ve never seen so many women hit like that before! No wonder they were the All Stars! Leanne has a mean stretch at 1st base, and Trish can swing a bat to left field any day!! Miriam has some guns and Melanie and Alicia were freaking hitting that ball! Go girls!

All in all, everyone had an awesome game, and they all deserve kudos for a game well played. I’d love to mention all of you, so if you have any special highlights that I’m forgetting about, bring it!!

Thanks again for everything!! Hope you all had fun, and looking forward to doing this again next time…only better!!

Kate

Oh, and ps…send me those pictures Leanne and Dave!!!

Just want to thank all the NL All-Stars who came out. It was a really good time. I also wanted to say thanks to Rack’s for buying the first of a few rounds of beer and Akadema for the few give a ways. Becca -
Sunglasses, Christina – ion, Dave- batting gloves, Steve – T-Shirt. The Kittens players Joe, Alan and Jackie for keeping the game loose and for taking the great pics. Kristen from X-Pect, always a class act. I hope
this is something we can do again.

The game itself was the way I thought it should be played…laid back and fun. NL West beat the East 15-9. Becca from the Firm was the MVP. It was very cool to get to know the players on a different level. Ryan from the Weekend Warriors is a great player plus a cool dude. Hung out and had a beer with the TLaGoS crew (Hutch,Christina, and Steve). Enjoyed talking with Joe Lubonski after the game at Rack’s. Just two Pollock’s drinking and doing a shot. It was a good time. Thanks to all for playing.

If you didn’t know or figure it out already, SJSL has taken a “new” approach to customer service. We’ve always recruited opinions, and most have been noted and taken into consideration when choosing the direction for each season. We’ve hit some snags over the years, and we realize that we can’t please everyone, but we sure will make every effort possible to try. We’ve been faithful about accommodating schedule requests, providing an organized means to play softball, and giving our players the best softball experience in South Jersey. Teams have come and gone, returned, and made their home here at SJSL. We are always striving to do it better than the last season, and we value your opinions so that we can make sure we’re doing it the right way.

After some constructive criticism, we’ve come to realize that in order to make you, the players happy, we need to focus more on our “tone” and “message” to the softball community. With that, we’re embarking with a whole new attitude and are ready to get this new season started!

Now, we need your help again…one of our dedicated coaches came to us with an awesome idea. Instead of giving a prize to the Champions, why not invest that money in hiring official scorekeepers who are neutral to the league with no biases, who will provide accurate stats and scores! This is an awesome idea, but, will it fly with the rest of the league? This is where you all come in. Cast your vote in our latest poll. We’ll draw some conclusions once we reach sufficient votes, and give you the feedback that we’ve received!
